Prime Minister Anutin to Visit Malaysia Ahead of ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will pay an official visit to Malaysia on October 25, ahead of his participation in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings taking place from October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur.

The trip, made at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, aims to strengthen bilateral ties and regional cooperation between the two close neighbors. It marks Anutin’s second overseas visit since taking office and his first engagement in a multilateral forum.

Strengthening Thai–Malaysian Cooperation

During the official visit, both leaders are expected to discuss key areas of collaboration — including border connectivity, trade, investment, tourism, and local community development — as well as joint efforts to promote peace and economic growth in Thailand’s southern provinces.

The meeting also reflects Thailand’s commitment to deepening cross-border cooperation with Malaysia on security and transboundary challenges, particularly in areas that affect border communities and regional stability.

Focus on Regional Dialogue at the ASEAN Summit

Under Malaysia’s chairmanship, the 47th ASEAN Summit will be held under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” Regional leaders will gather to address pressing issues across Southeast Asia, from economic recovery and food security to climate action and peacebuilding.

This year’s summit is also historic, as Timor-Leste joins for the first time as a full ASEAN member, expanding the regional bloc to eleven nations.

Thailand’s Four Key Priorities

At the summit, Prime Minister Anutin will highlight four major priorities for Thailand’s engagement in ASEAN:

  1. Promoting regional peace and stability

  2. Enhancing security and resilience

  3. Fostering equitable and inclusive economic growth

  4. Advancing sustainability and green development

Strengthening Partnerships Beyond ASEAN

While in Kuala Lumpur, Anutin is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with fellow ASEAN leaders and key dialogue partners — including representatives from the United States, China, Japan, and India. These talks are expected to expand Thailand’s regional presence and boost cooperation across economic, digital, and environmental sectors.
