Bangkok, Thailand — The 34th Prince Mahidol Awards (PMA) for 2025 celebrated two exceptional individuals whose lifelong work has reshaped modern medicine and public health worldwide.
Presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty the King, the ceremony took place at the Chakri Throne Hall, followed by a royal dinner honoring the laureates at Boromrajasathitmaholarn Hall.
Among dignitaries in attendance were the Prime Minister and Cabinet Members, the Privy Council, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and ambassadors from nominating countries—reflecting the global significance of the awards.
Dr. Terry Dean King (USA)
Awarded in the field of Medicine, Dr. Terry Dean King, M.D., was recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to the treatment of congenital heart defects, a condition affecting millions of children worldwide.

Prof. Dr. Walter C. Willett (USA)
In the field of Public Health, the Prince Mahidol Award was presented to Professor Dr. Walter C. Willett, M.D., M.P.H., Dr.P.H., a globally respected authority in nutrition and preventive health.
His pioneering research has transformed how governments, institutions, and health organizations approach diet-related diseases. By linking nutrition science with public policy, Professor Willett’s work has played a critical role in shaping preventive public health strategies worldwide, improving long-term health outcomes for populations across continents.
Honoring a Global Health Legacy
Established in honor of HRH Prince Mahidol of Songkla, known as “The Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand,” the Prince Mahidol Award has recognized outstanding contributions to international medicine and public health since 2002.
