Rescue operation is over after 24 hours in Ganjbasoda of Vidisha district in Madhya Pradesh. The team has pulled out the bodies of all the 11 people who were buried under the rubble of the well. Around 31 people were buried under the debris in the well at the time of the accident. Out of this, 20 lives have been saved. They have been admitted to the hospital. The body of Ravi, a 10-year-old boy who fell first in the well, was found last, in an attempt to save him. 11 people, including a father and son, have died in the accident. State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang was quoted as saying that the boy’s body was the last to be pulled out of the well. District in-charge minister Sarang said that the rescue operation is over.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the well and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims. He said that “I am saddened by the accident in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. My condolences to the bereaved families. An ex-gratia amount of two lakh rupees each will be given to the families of those who lost their lives in the PMNRF accident.”
According to the police, a 10-year-old boy had fallen from the well in Lal Patar village of the area. After this, some people descended into the well to save him, while many people gathered on the well’s spire to help them and see the matter. After this, the mount of the well suddenly collapsed and the people standing on it fell into the water of the well. The well was about 40 feet deep. The tractor being used to extract water also fell into the well.
At the same time, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the accident and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
