Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to the new Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba over the phone and congratulated and congratulated him for the new responsibility. We will work together to enhance mutual cooperation between India and Nepal in various fields, including the fight against Covid-19, tweeted PM Modi.
Here, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that it has been agreed between the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal to work together to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields. The Ministry of External Affairs further said that discussions were held between the two Prime Ministers to enhance mutual cooperation, especially against the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba became the Prime Minister of the country for the fifth time. President Vidya Devi Bhandari appointed him as the Prime Minister under Article 76(5) of the Constitution. This is the fifth time that Deuba (74) has returned to power as the Prime Minister of Nepal. His appointment is in line with the Supreme Court’s decision on Monday. Which had stamped his claim for the post of Prime Minister, removing KP Sharma Oli.
Prior to this, Deuba has been Prime Minister four times – for the first time in September 1995 – March 1997, for the second time in July 2001 – October 2002, for the third time in June 2004 – February 2005 and for the fourth time till June 2017 – February 2018. Deuba will have to seek a vote of confidence in the House within 30 days of his appointment as prime minister under the constitutional provision.
The Supreme Court on Monday quashed Prime Minister Oli’s May 21 decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and ordered the appointment of Deuba as prime minister. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana had said that Oli’s claim on the post of prime minister was unconstitutional.
