Opal Suchata Chuangsri was crowned Miss Universe Thailand in an extravagant final held on Sunday night (July 14) at The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi. The event kicked off with a grand opening show featuring all 40 contestants. Opal will go on to represent Thailand in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, set to be held in Mexico later this year.
Representing Bangkok, Opal received the prestigious Starlight Crown from Mouawad, along with a sash, a bouquet from Floedesign, and various other prizes.
The first runner-up was Surisa “Suri” Susanna Renaud from Phuket. Kanruthai “Muk” Thasabut, representing Ubon Ratchathani, secured third place, while Boonyisa Chantrarachai from Maha Sarakham came in fourth.
Opal, who first competed in Miss Universe Thailand 2022 and finished as the third runner-up (later promoted to second runner-up), was born on March 20, 2003, in Phuket. Her parents run the Homeplace Hotel in the old town. Trilingual in Thai, English, and Chinese, Opal graduated with a focus on the Chinese language from Triam Udom Suksa School and is currently studying Political Science, majoring in International Relations at Thammasat University.
At 16, Opal faced a significant health scare when diagnosed with a 10 cm lump in her breast. She underwent surgery to remove the non-cancerous lump, a turning point that inspired her to participate in beauty pageants to raise awareness about breast cancer, the leading threat to women’s health worldwide.
Opal’s evening gown for the final, designed by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez, was a highlight of the event. The off-shoulder trumpet gown, adorned with hand-embroidered glass crystals, rhinestones, and Swarovski crystals, symbolized triumph over adversity. The gown’s ribbon detail honored those touched by breast cancer, reflecting Opal’s personal journey and unwavering spirit. The radiant gold and silver tones embodied Opal’s courage, making her a true beacon of grace and empowerment.
