Blessing of the Fleet 2025 in Hua Hin – A Tradition Honoring the Sea

Hua Hin, Thailand – Hua Hin’s annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony returns this weekend, Sunday, 7 September 2025 at the Chao Mae Tubtim Shrine, near the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. This vibrant seaside ritual is one of the most important cultural traditions for the town’s fishing community, celebrating Hua Hin’s long-standing relationship with the sea.

A Ceremony Rooted in Heritage

The Blessing of the Fleet, sometimes called the Ship to Sea Ceremony, pays homage to the generations of local fishermen who have relied on the ocean for their livelihood. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., the day opens with monk blessings and merit-making rituals, setting the tone of gratitude and protection for both the community and visitors.

The Sea Offering – A Spectacle at Noon

The highlight of the event takes place at 12:00 p.m., when the Sea Offering ritual begins. Thousands of small figurines, symbolizing people and families, are carried out to sea at Khao Krong.

Participants can write their names or blessings on a piece of paper attached to the figurines before placing them in a beautifully decorated boat. This symbolic act is believed to bring good fortune, ward off misfortune, and protect those who depend on the sea.

As the boat is launched into the ocean, firecrackers are lit to send it on its way—a dramatic and moving moment that draws both locals and tourists.

Community Participation

In the days leading up to the event, the ceremonial boat can be found at Wat Hua Hin’s Phra Nak Shrine (open daily 08:00–14:00) for those who wish to add their figurines and blessings in advance. On 6 September 2025, the boat is paraded through Hua Hin’s Old Town, accompanied by food, festivities, and community spirit.

By the time it reaches the sea on September 7, the boat carries the collective hopes, prayers, and blessings of the entire town.

This meaningful tradition blends faith, heritage, and community, making it one of Hua Hin’s most memorable cultural experiences. Whether you’re a local resident or a traveler seeking authentic Thai culture, the Blessing of the Fleet is an event not to be missed.
