Bangkok Celebrates Navaratri 2025 at Wat Khaek Silom

Bangkok came alive with color, music, and devotion as the Navaratri Festival 2025 concluded with the Vijayadashami Parade at Wat Phra Si Maha Uma Devi (Wat Khaek Silom) on October 2.

Organized by the Department of Religious Affairs in partnership with the Brahmin Royal Court Office and Wat Khaek Silom, the celebration marked the end of the nine-day festival that ran from September 22 to October 2, 2025. Thousands of participants and visitors filled the streets of Bang Rak, reflecting both religious significance and cultural vibrancy.

Highlights of the Parade

The Vijayadashami procession featured eight major segments, including:

  • Devotees honoring Goddess Uma Devi

  • Processions dedicated to Lord Murugan (Kartikeya) and Goddess Kali

  • Royal chariots carrying sacred images of Lord Ganesha, Lord Krishna, and Lord Kattavarayan

  • Sacred appearances of Goddess Mahalakshmi and Uma Devi

The event represents the final victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, a central story of the Navaratri tradition. Celebrated across nine nights, the festival concludes with Vijayadashami, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Cultural and Economic Impact

Navaratri at Wat Khaek Silom has grown into one of Bangkok’s most recognized cultural festivals. The event supports local businesses including hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, and vendors selling flowers and worship items. It also contributes to Bangkok’s religious tourism, drawing both Thai devotees and international visitors each year.

A Unique Cultural Experience in Bangkok

For travelers, the Navaratri Festival offers a chance to witness a vibrant cultural and spiritual tradition at the heart of Bangkok. The mix of processions, rituals, and street celebrations highlights the city’s diversity and its role as a center for both religious devotion and cultural exchange.
