Bangkok, Thailand — Thailand and the Philippines reaffirmed their strong diplomatic ties during a high-level working dinner hosted by Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, for H.E. Ms. Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.
During the meeting, the Thai Foreign Minister reiterated Thailand’s full support for the Philippines as it assumes the role of ASEAN Chair this year, highlighting the importance of close coordination among ASEAN member states amid evolving regional challenges.
A key topic of discussion was the role of the Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar. Both sides exchanged views on the current situation in Myanmar and reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting peace, stability, and constructive dialogue in line with ASEAN principles.
The ministers also discussed the latest developments along the Thailand–Cambodia border following the recent ceasefire. Thailand emphasized its firm commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement and maintaining peace and stability for communities living along the border, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in preventing further tensions.
Beyond regional security issues, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Thailand and the Philippines. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding economic cooperation and jointly addressing transnational crime. Both sides acknowledged the growing threat posed by online scam networks, which have emerged as a serious security concern for both countries and the wider international community, and agreed on the need for closer collaboration to combat these crimes.
The working dinner reflected the continued warmth of Thailand–Philippines relations and their shared commitment to regional stability, economic partnership, and people-centered security within the ASEAN framework.
