Royal Thai Embassy Launches First Namaste Thailand Quiz in Guwahati

Guwahati, India — The Royal Thai Embassy New Delhi successfully organized the “Namaste Thailand Quiz – NTQ2026 (1st Edition)” on May 7, 2026, at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium in Guwahati.

The event brought together more than 140 students representing 23 schools from Guwahati and surrounding areas across Assam, highlighting growing youth interest in Thailand and its culture.

Strengthening Thailand–India Cultural Connections

During the opening ceremony, Ms. Kanokporn Kunnawattana, Minister Counsellor at the Royal Thai Embassy, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to host the quiz in Guwahati—the first time the competition has been held outside New Delhi.

She highlighted Assam’s important role in Thailand–India relations, noting the long-standing “Pi-Nong,” or brotherly connection, between the two regions. Shared cultural influences, historical links, and connections with Tai ethnic communities continue to be reflected in local traditions, cuisine, and language.

Growing Interest in Thai Culture Among Indian Youth

The Embassy also recognized Assam’s strategic importance as a gateway to India’s Northeast Region, where young people have shown increasing enthusiasm for Thai culture, tourism, T-pop, and Thai entertainment content.

The quiz competition forms part of broader efforts to deepen cultural understanding and people-to-people ties between Thailand and India through educational and youth-focused initiatives.

Winners Earn Educational Trip to Thailand

The winners of the Guwahati edition were Mr. Neeraj and Mr. Ankit from St. Vivekananda English Academy. Along with their teacher, the students will receive an educational trip to Thailand, where they will join participants from the upcoming NTQ2026 second edition in New Delhi and the NCR region.

A Continuing Platform for Cultural Exchange

The Guwahati edition marked the 12th consecutive year of the Namaste Thailand Quiz initiative and represented a significant expansion beyond the Indian capital for the first time.

Over the years, the competition has become an important platform for promoting awareness of Thailand among Indian students, covering topics related to Thai culture, history, tourism, and economic cooperation.
