Afghanistan: 1st VP Amrullah Declares himself Caretaker President

The situation in Afghanistan has become much worse after the Taliban took control. On the one hand, where a ban on aid from abroad is being announced and most countries have vacated their embassies, on the other hand people are trying to escape from there by saving their lives. Meanwhile, Amrullah Saleh, the former First Vice President of Afghanistan, has declared himself the country’s caretaker president. He said that all the leaders are being contacted so that their help and consent can be ensured.

Amarullah Saleh tweeted that according to the Constitution of Afghanistan, the first Vice President will be the Caretaker President in the resignation, death, escape or absence of the President. I am contacting all the leaders so that their support and consensus can be reached.

After the Taliban took control, Germany has suspended development aid to Afghanistan. Germany’s Development Minister Gerd Müller told local media that ‘government development aid has been suspended for the time being’. He said international employees of Germany’s development agency GIZ and all German nationals had left Afghanistan. Also said that Germany was also trying to drive out local Afghan personnel.

So far, Afghanistan has been the country that has been given the most development assistance in the world from Germany. The government of Germany was planning to release an amount of about 250 million euros as development aid in the year 2021, however, this amount was not released yet.

Significantly, with the Taliban’s capture of Kabul on Sunday, the US-backed Ghani government fell and the President was forced to leave the country like ordinary people of the country and abroad. President Ghani, 72, fled Kabul with a helicopter loaded with cash. In his first statement since leaving Afghanistan, Ghani wrote a post on Facebook on Sunday. The President wrote that he had two difficult choices, first the armed Taliban trying to break into Rashtrapati Bhavan, and second, leaving his beloved country, which I spent 20 years of my life defending.
