The name of the new Chief Minister of Karnataka has been decided. Basavaraj Bommai was elected the leader of the legislature party in the BJP legislature party meeting. Basavaraj Bommai is the son of former Chief Minister SR Bommai. Basavaraj Bommai is close to BS Yediyappa and comes from the Lingayat community. Bommai has been the Home Minister in BS Yediyappa’s cabinet.
Basavaraj Bommai took the oath of office and secrecy of the Chief Minister. He was administered the oath by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa was also present during the swearing-in. Along with this, many other big central and state senior leaders of BJP were also present in the program. Along with the CM, 3 deputy CMs also took oath. These include the names of R Ashoka, Govind Karjol and Sriramulu.
Yeddyurappa proposed the name of Basavaraj Bommai in the legislature party meeting. Govind Karjol supported the proposal. To which all the legislators agreed. After being elected the leader of the legislature party, Bommai touched Yeddyurappa’s feet and sought blessings.
On being elected the Chief Minister, Basavaraj said that this is a big responsibility in the current situation. I will try to work for the poor as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. I never expected it. However, I believed in my hard work and got the result.
The legislature party meeting was attended by caretaker Chief Minister Yeddyurappa along with BJP’s central observers – Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and G Kishan Reddy. Earlier in the day, BJP national general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh met Yeddyurappa along with state president Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Yediyurappa completed his two-year term as Chief Minister on Monday. He had announced his resignation in a program organized on the occasion. He then met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation to him.
