‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’ Review

The cinema of Bollywood is creating the history of the country on the screen these days.
The latest film in this episode is Bhuj: The Pride of India, released on the OTT platform Disney Hotstar. In terms of stars, there are names in it which can easily attract the audience. From Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha to Nora Fatehi. Combining all these, a huge fan following is created for the film on the pretext of the stars.

Here nationalism remains the main voice in politics and society. In such a situation, ‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’ is in those films, which were waiting. It was made for the big screen, but could not reach the theaters due to the Covid crisis. Without delaying much, it has now been launched on a smaller screen. The film is based on the true events of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. In which the rulers of Pakistan, who were constantly battered on the front of the then East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh), the army officers thought that India should be attacked from the west.

It will not be possible for India to fight on the fronts. Therefore, by winning in the West, the Eastern Front would be bargained for because they had understood that East Pakistan had gone out of their hands. Bangladesh will be formed in its place. So the last hope was the communication of Pakistani dictator and army chief Hyaa Khan that he would have tea in Delhi with the Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi after winning the areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat by unexpected attack in the west. There will be some bargaining in exchange for Bangladesh. All this is explained and shown in detail in Bhuj: The Pride of India.

With these nefarious intentions, Pakistan had rained bombs on the airstrips of Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat. In particular, by throwing hundreds of bombs on the airstrip of Bhuj located in Kutch, it was completely ruined. So that when there is a ground attack by Pakistan, Indian aircraft cannot fly from here to stop it. However, India destroyed Pakistan’s Karachi port and several air bases in retaliation.

The story of Bhuj: The Pride of India mainly talks about the bravery and visionary decisions of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik (Ajay Devgan) of the Indian Air Force. When the engineers who built the airstrip, fearing Pakistani attack, fled, dozens of soldiers were injured and reached the hospital, they rebuilt the airstrip overnight with the help of about 300 men and women from a nearby village. Due to which the Air Force plane brought the soldiers could land and Pakistan was given a befitting reply.

This airstrip, built by the common people by playing on their lives, not only raised the spirit of the Air Force, but also wrote the history of the country’s victory in golden letters with full pride. The film tells that when the time comes, the common man renounces his home and stands with the country and the army.

If the script had a bit of power in the film, the effect of the film could have been more. The interesting thing is that it has been written by four people together. Abhishek Dudhaiya, who has made many serials for TV, has entered Bollywood as a director for the first time and was successful in making a grand film.

This is the perfect film to evoke pride in the valor of our armies on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence this 15th August.
