Congress Leader Jitin Prasada Joins BJP Ahead UP Elections

Before the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress party has suffered a major setback. Veteran leader and former Union Minister Jitin Prasada has joined BJP. BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal got him the membership of the party.

Jitin Prasad’s father late Jitin Prasad, a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was a veteran Congress leader. Jitin Prasad, who did B.Com from Delhi University, was given the responsibility of the post of secretary in the Youth Congress in the Congress in 2001. After this, Jitin Prasad reached the Lok Sabha by winning his home seat Shahjahanpur in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. In 2008, expressing confidence in Jitin Prasada, he was given the responsibility of the Union State Steel Minister in the Manmohan Singh government.

After this, Jitin Prasad reached the Lok Sabha by winning from Dhaurahara seat of UP in the 2009 elections. But after this, he had to face a crushing defeat in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Jitin Prasad stood third in Dhaurahara seat of Uttar Pradesh.

Jitin Prasad was angry with the Congress party for a long time. He was also among 23 leaders who wrote letters to Sonia Gandhi. Prasad wanted a bigger responsibility in the UP Congress but he was being ignored in the party.

Jitin Prasada was considered very close to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Although he did not openly protest about this, but he was constantly indicating that he was not happy with the party.

After joining BJP, Jitin Prasad said that “I have realized in the last 8-10 years that if there is any real institutional political party in the country today, it is BJP. The rest of the parties have become individual and region, but if there is any party in India in the name of national party, then it is BJP. I have taken this important decision after much thought, deliberation and brainstorming. Today the question is not which party I am leaving but the question is which party I am going to and why.
