DRDO Successfully Test Fires Enhanced Pinaka Rocket

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) test-fired an improved version of the indigenous Pinaka rocket from the Integrated Test Center (ITR) at Chandipur near the Odisha coast. Official sources told about this on Friday. During the test, a total of 25 Pinaka rockets were able to hit the target accurately at different distances on Thursday and Friday. The 122 mm caliber rocket was fired from a Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL), an official said.

A source said, “The targets were successfully hit during the mission. The Pinaka rocket system can hit targets up to a distance of 40 km under the extended range. The accuracy of the rocket hit the target was monitored through various instruments.

The rocket system has been developed by Pune-based Ordnance Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) with the help of Economic Explosives Limited, Nagpur. The advanced Pinaka system has been developed to achieve the long range capability, the sources said.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and industry on the successful test-fire of Unnatam Pinaka rocket. Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defense (R&D) and Chairman, DRDO also lauded the efforts of the team involved in the successful launch of the rocket.
