The Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) of Thailand is set to begin gathering a 500 baht tourism fee from foreigners for a “tourism transformation fund” in the year 2022, with the allocation imitating the country’s co-payment framework.
The Centre for Economic SItuation Administration had last week authorized the initiation of the fund which is anticipated to finance proposals that will reorganize the tourism industry concentrating on valuable and long-lasting tourism.
According to Governor Yutthasak Supasorn of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) the 500 baht per person fee collection should be launched in 2022 with the goal of accumulating 5 billion baht within the first year, supposing that 10 million foreign guests will arrive next year.
The National Tourism Policy Committee had previously this year granted the authorization to start the creation of the fund with the suggestion of 500 baht on each single foreigner.
Moreover, Governor Yuthasak had stated that the added 200 baht will be set aside for projects established by private sectors, community businesses, or social enterprises who wanted to to rearrange their businesses to link up with the fund’s strategy, supporting Thailand to be re-invented from mass tourism to high-value or a bio circular and green economic model and environmentally involved tourism.
