The Ramkhamhaeng station on the Airport Rail Link was temporarily closed on Monday morning after a fire broke out in a shophouse just 4 meters away from the station. The blaze, which started at around 4:30 AM in a 3-story shophouse on Ramkhamhaeng Road’s Nasa Street, was swiftly brought under control by firefighters within half an hour.
Despite the fire damaging approximately 30 shops, no injuries were reported. Nipaporn Phuwong, 25, an employee of a nearby 24-hour convenience store, noticed the fumes at around 4:30 AM. After failing to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, she called the fire police.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, who was jogging in Yaowarat, arrived at the scene at about 5:30 AM. He instructed city officials to ensure the safety of Airport Rail Link passengers. The governor confirmed that the fire was confined to the ground floor of some shops and that the train service continued uninterrupted. Passengers were directed to use nearby stations like Makkasan and Hua Mark during the temporary closure.
By 6:00 AM, Airport Link announced the temporary closure of Ramkhamhaeng station via Facebook. The station reopened at about 8:30 AM, although the escalator remains out of service.
