The monsoon flood situation in Assam has worsened. Around five lakh people in 21 districts have been badly affected by the first wave of floods in the state. The government has said that so far 39606.03 hectares of crop land has been damaged by the floods. The worst affected district is Nalbari with more than one lakh people.
Presently 1230 villages in 21 districts of Assam are facing flood water. More than 91 thousand people are affected in Golaghat and more than 84 thousand people in Darang. 105 relief camps and distribution centers have been set up by the government in 12 districts. More than 4000 people, including 935 children, have taken shelter in these camps. The government has said that more than 5.4 lakh animals and poultry have also been affected due to the floods.
At the same time, in the south Salmara Brahmaputra river, the soil is falling fiercely and becoming a river. The water of the Brahmaputra has come very high for the continuous rains in Assam. For this, the river has started getting bigger and bigger by sinking the soil in the water. Due to which about 650 houses including a mosque have been washed away in water.
85 relief camps have been set up in 10 districts to provide shelter to the flood victims. As per reports, 3,584 people, including 648 children, have taken shelter in the camps. Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have been flooded to such an extent that more than 70 per cent of its area spread over Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Vishwanath and Karbi Anglong districts has been affected, killing some wild animals.
Park officials said eight hog deer, two swamp deer and one langur were killed in the floods. The Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation is currently looking after a rhinoceros calf that was rescued. More than 4.45 lakh domestic animals including pottery have been affected by the floods. Flood waters in Bongaigaon, Darang Barpeta, Chirang, Goalpara, Jorhat, Golaghat, Biswanath, Morigaon, Sivasagar and Kokrajhar have damaged infrastructure such as bridges, embankments, schools and other public and private business places.
