Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that India has launched Operation Brahma, positioning itself as a first responder to aid the people of Myanmar. The first tranche of 15 tonnes of relief material has already arrived in Yangon, including essential supplies such as:
- Tents
- Blankets
- Sleeping bags
- Food packets
- Hygiene kits
- Generators
- Essential medicines
Thailand Deploys Military Personnel for Relief Operations
In a swift response to Myanmar’s crisis, Thailand has confirmed its commitment to assisting its neighbor. On March 30, a specialized team of 49 personnel from the Royal Thai Armed Forces will be deployed to support rescue operations, medical aid, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
Widespread Damage to Religious and Historical Sites
The powerful earthquake has not only led to a significant loss of life but also caused severe damage to Myanmar’s cultural and religious heritage. Reports indicated:
- 670 Buddhist monasteries
- 290 pagodas
- 150 mosques
Continuous Aftershocks Felt Across the Region
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the earthquake has triggered 108 aftershocks from the Sagaing Fault as of 4:30 PM, March 29. While the tremors were recorded as weak, they had minimal impact on Thailand itself.
