The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 4, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 149,325 new cases reported across India.
Kerala has reported 42,677 cases followed by Karnataka registering 16,436 cases, and Maharashtra stands at 15,252 cases at this time. Today’s number is lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.
This is the fifth day that the cases have fallen below 200,000. Despite the decline in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.
Kerala and Mizoram are reporting a rise in cases that concern the government. Their weekly positivity rate increased to 45% and 34% respectively. This is significantly higher than India’s overall rate of 13%.
Due to the overall decline in cases, the government revises guidelines on the reopening of schools. These are guidelines that will provide to the local governments. The school reopening guidelines will include precaution, timetable, assessment, emotional, and mental health.
European Medicines Agency (EMA) head Marco Cavaleri says that more studies are required for the new sub-lineage. Omicron BA.2 needs to be further checked regarding its differences from the original variant. The head of Biological Health Threats and Vaccines Strategy said that its contagiousness and other factors must be considered. 54 countries have reported having the sub-lineage thus far.
