Now trains running on hydrogen based technology can be started soon in India. This technology will be first developed to run on 89 km track between Jind and Sonipat. If this technology is successful in India, then India will become the third country in the world where green energy will be used.
ADG PRO Rajiv Jain said, ‘We will do retrofitting in DEMU trains running on 89 km track between Jind and Sonipat. The pre-bid conference for this will be held on 17th August and we hope to complete the process by 5th October. SK Saxena, CEO, Railway Energy Management Company Limited, said, “We will remove the diesel generator and install a hydrogen fuel cell.” Input will be converted from diesel to hydrogen fuel. This would be the cleanest form of fuel. If hydrogen is produced from solar then it will be called green energy.
In fact, Indian Railways has invited bids for the use of hydrogen fuel cell based technology by retrofitting on Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) on the 89-km-long Sonepat-Jind route of Northern Railway. Through this, Indian Railways will try to find out whether existing diesel-run trains can be retrofitted to use hydrogen.
Railways is engaged in the campaign to make the journey pollution free. With the electrification of the entire track, now the exercise of running trains with hydrogen fuel has intensified. Diesel engines are also being removed from the tracks to eliminate dependence on fossil fuels. Even the diesel generator set is being removed from the train and connected directly to the overhead wire system.
“Retrofitting a diesel-powered DEMU and converting it to a hydrogen fueled train set will not only save Rs 2.3 crore annually, but also reduce carbon emissions (Nitric Oxide) by 11.12 kilo tonnes every year,” the statement said. can be done.”
According to the statement, after successful implementation of this pilot project, it can be planned to run all the rolling stock running on diesel fuel on hydrogen fuel through electrification. The deadline for submission of tender has been fixed from September 21, 2021 to October 5, 2021.
