General Bipin Rawat was the first CDS of the country. Bipin Rawat became the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff after retiring from the post of Army Chief on 31 December 2019. He was made the Army Chief on 31 December 2016. General Rawat had a long experience of working in the LoC in the Eastern Sector, the Kashmir Valley and the Northeast. Given the experience of working in disturbed areas, the Modi government made General Rawat the Army Chief in December 2016, giving preference to two senior officers.

The Indian Army had destroyed many terrorist camps by conducting surgical strikes in PoK on 29 September 2016. The big thing is that the surgical strike was carried out within a month of General Bipin Rawat becoming the Deputy Army Chief. Many terrorists were also killed in the attack. The army took this action after several soldiers were martyred in the attack on the army camp in Uri and the CRPF in Pulwama. Under the leadership of General Rawat, the Indian Army went across the country’s border and destroyed the terrorist camps and killed many terrorists.
