Regarding gold hallmarking, the central government had prepared its blueprint about one and a half years ago and issued an order to do so. However, this order could not be implemented due to Corona.
Now in the new order, gold hallmarking has been made mandatory for all jewelers from June 15. In the instructions issued by the government, it has been said that now shopkeepers should sell only BIS certified gold ornaments.
Hallmarking of gold of 4 carat, 18 carat and 22 carat purity will be done. Failure to comply with this rule issued by the government can lead to imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of more than Rs 1 lakh under section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
If a shopkeeper cheats the customer in the rules of hallmarking, then according to the rules of BIS, the customers will have to pay twice the difference in the actual rate.
If a shopkeeper cheats you, then a complaint can be made to the Bureau of Indian Standards regarding any discrepancy through online and offline methods. You can use the BIS mobile app or the complaint registration portal to register complaints online. Apart from this, you can also take all the details with you and complain to the Public Grievance Officer of the regional or nearest branch. After registering the complaint, a receipt is also given to the customer.
What will happen to the gold lying in people’s homes? So in such a situation, customers need not panic, this rule of hallmarking will be implemented for jewelers selling gold ornaments. Customers can sell their jewelery without hallmark.
