In Thailand’s southern Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, 3 markets and 2 communities have been closed for at least 7 days due to rising Covid cases. Local authorities there say that Bang Wang, 100 Saal, and Wat Hu Long markets are isolated, as well as Moo 1 and Moo 3 villages. Hundreds of confirmed cases have been reported this week. Yesterday, the province reported 265 new cases linked to the Bang Wang market. Of the 1,000 people who were tested using antigen tests, about 200 people had positive results. Which is a matter of great concern because of which this decision has been taken. Local Nakhon Si Thammarat teacher, and former financial advisor, Chris, withholding the last name, spoke to Thaiger about the market closing.
He said “I am disappointed that the markets are closing. They are a vibrant part of the community and they are one of the things I love the most about Thailand. Although I’m not sure where these markets are located, and to be honest, I’m not sure of any of their names. I enjoy this one snack that is often sold in the market, it is tasty and cheap, as are most things in the markets. I hope the markets, if they are like me, will reopen soon. I hope people are fine too.” Bang Wang market is an old market in Pak Fanang district.
