It has been decided to rename the News Broadcasters Association (NBA), the country’s largest body of news broadcasters, to ‘News Broadcasters and Digital Association’ (NBDA). The main news channels of India are included in this association. The NBA includes the country’s major news channels, which account for 80 percent of the news television viewership in the country.
Name changed from NBA to NBDA
With the change in the media landscape due to technology, there are now many options for the viewers to access the content on different mediums and now the future also belongs to the digital, so the digital media reflects the news broadcasters as its members. To do this, the NBA board has decided to change its name to NBDA.
NBDA will become a strong voice’
Announcing the decision to change the name, NBA Director Rajat Sharma said, “The NBA has decided to bring digital media news broadcasters within its ambit. In its new phase, with the induction of Digital Media News Broadcasters, the NBA Board has decided to rename the body from NBA to NBDA. A strong collective voice will be formed. Along with commercial and regulatory issues, it will also enable the association to protect the fundamental right of free speech and expression guaranteed to the media in the Constitution of India.
The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA), an independent self-regulatory body, was set up 14 years ago by the News Broadcasters Association. NBSA has put in place a time-tested grievance redressal system and process under the chairmanship of eminent judges of the Supreme Court of India and eminent persons who strive to improve broadcasting standards. The NBDA Board has decided to rename the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA), a self-regulatory body, as the News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA), with the inclusion of digital media news broadcasters.
