The Supreme Court on Monday said the yoga guru’s plea seeking stay on the investigation in connection with the FIRs registered against Ramdev’s alleged statement against the use of allopathic medicines will be heard on July 12. The court said that it has got the original records of the said statement only on Sunday night. The apex court was on Monday to look into the original record of statements made by yoga guru Ramdev regarding the use of allopathic medicines during Covid-19. Ramdev has filed a petition in the matter, urging him to stay the investigation and transfer the cases registered against him in this connection to Delhi.
A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Hrishikesh Roy said, “At 11 pm on Sunday night we found a thick bundle of files, containing copies of statements and videos.” “We are listing the matter for hearing after a week.” Earlier, advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Ramdev, had said that the matter could be heard sometime.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has lodged several FIRs in Patna and Raipur regarding his statement against the use of allopathic medicines during the Covid-19 global pandemic. Earlier, the bench had sought original records of Ramdev’s alleged statements on the matter. Ramdev, in his petition, along with quashing the criminal complaint, has also requested to transfer the FIRs registered in Patna and Raipur to Delhi. The yoga guru has been booked under various sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and sections 188, 269 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
It is worth noting that the alleged statement of Baba Ramdev had started the debate of Allopathy vs Ayurveda in the country. However, Ramdev withdrew his statement on May 23 after Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan termed the remarks as “inappropriate” and wrote a letter.
