Bangkok, Thailand — The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), under the auspices of the Embassy of India in Bangkok, will commemorate International Vesak Day with a special cultural and academic programme on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the SVCC premises.
Observed globally, Vesak Day marks the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (passing) of Lord Buddha and is a United Nations-recognized occasion promoting peace, mindfulness, and intercultural dialogue. The SVCC’s celebration will bring together eminent scholars, spiritual leaders, and members of the public for an evening of reflection and cultural enrichment.
The event will feature guest lectures by two distinguished speakers:

Prof. Dr. Phramethivajrapandit (Phramaha Hansa Dhammahaso), Abbot of Wat Mai (Yet Pan) and Director of the International Buddhist Studies College (IBSC), Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, will deliver a talk on “Vesak in Different Cultures.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Sompoundnuj Tansrisuk, of the South Asian Language Section, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, will speak on “Celebration of Vesak Day in the Thai Context.”
In addition to the scholarly presentations, the programme will include an Indian classical music recital, offering attendees a cultural experience that complements the spiritual and philosophical themes of the occasion.
The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre has consistently served as a platform for fostering intercultural understanding and spiritual dialogue between India and Thailand. This year’s Vesak Day celebration is expected to attract a diverse audience, including academics, practitioners of Buddhism, members of the Indian diaspora, and cultural enthusiasts.
