In a meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, it was decided that the first phase of unlocking would be in effect from September. The decision was long awaited and August saw a further tightening of the rules due to worrying Covid 19 figures.
Now, as September arrives, Thailand readies itself to relax the restrictions as a first step towards normalcy. The lives of people across the globe saw a restricted lifestyle due to Covid 19 pandemic. The step is being seen as a measure to bring life to normalcy as well as to boost economy.
As per the new directions, the restaurants can reopen for dine-in until 8 pm. Restaurant staff needs to be fully vaccinated and a weekly antigen test is required. Diners are also expected to be fully vaccinated. In addition to this, the parks and sport clubs/ stadiums can also run up to 8 pm. Transport services are to offer 75% of the seating capacity. Night curfew between 9 pm to 4 am shall continue to remain in place.
However, there are no relaxations on opening of schools, amusement parks, cinemas, public pools and spas etc.
15,972 new Covid-19 cases and 256 coronavirus-related deaths were reported today by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.
