Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri Crowned 72nd Miss World in India

Hyderabad, India — A historic moment unfolded on May 31 at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Telangana, India. Opal Suchata Chuangsri, representing Thailand, was crowned the 72nd Miss World, making her the first Thai woman to ever win the prestigious title since 1951.

Opal triumphed over more than 100 contestants, succeeding Miss World 2024, Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic, and etching her name into the history books. The event held in India made the moment even more special for many across the region who share pride in this achievement.

Who Is Opal Suchata Chuangsri?

Born on March 20, 2003, in Phuket, Opal was raised amidst the world of hospitality — her parents being hoteliers — yet always had her sights set on a global platform. A trilingual talent (Thai, English, Chinese), Opal’s academic journey began at the elite Triam Udom Suksa School in Bangkok, where she first cultivated her interest in languages and cross-cultural dialogue. She now studies Political Science with a focus on International Relations at Thammasat University, one of Thailand’s most prestigious institutions.

Beyond the glitz and gowns, Opal brings purpose to her platform. After undergoing surgery at 16 to remove a benign breast lump, she turned her experience into a national advocacy campaign — “Opal For Her” — which champions early detection and breast health awareness. Her story and activism have resonated deeply with young women across Thailand and now, globally.

Interestingly, Opal’s journey to the Miss World crown comes just weeks after a notable controversy — her third runner-up title at Miss Universe Thailand was revoked. Undeterred, she channelled her energy into a more meaningful cause and stage. And now, with the Miss World crown firmly placed on her head, Opal’s resilience has become a story of reinvention and inspiration.

As Opal embarks on her year-long journey as Miss World 2025, her story will continue to inspire not just Thais, but all who believe in second chances, self-belief, and the power of using one’s platform for good.

From Phuket to Hyderabad, and now to the world — congratulations, Opal!
