The Delhi High Court has given a big blow to the microblogging site Twitter regarding the appointment of Grievance Officer. Delhi High Court slammed Twitter, asking how much time does your process take? If Twitter thinks that you can take as much time as you want in our country, then the court will not allow it.
The Delhi High Court has said that Twitter is violating the law by not appointing a Grievance Redressal Officer under the new IT rules. The High Court has ordered Twitter to inform by July 8 when it will appoint a grievance redressal officer in view of the new IT rules.
It is noteworthy that in the matter of non-compliance of the guidelines issued by the Central Government regarding social media platforms, OTT platforms and digital media, information was given by giving an affidavit in the Delhi High Court on behalf of the controversial social media platform Twitter. The company is soon going to appoint Grievance Officer in India.
There are constant allegations against Twitter that it is not following the Indian law and the guidelines of the Central Government. For this reason, it is neither appointing Grievance Officer in India nor is appointing other officers as per the guidelines.
Let us tell you that on 25 February, the central government had issued new guidelines for social media platform OTT platform and digital media and gave three months time to all companies to follow it, which has expired on 25 May. In these guidelines, it has been said to appoint other officers including Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer and Grievance Officer in India and to comply with Indian law.
The companies which do not follow these guidelines issued by the central government, the exemption which they had got till now, is over. Due to that exemption, no criminal case could have been registered against such companies till now. Because Twitter has not yet followed the guidelines of the Central Government, due to this, criminal cases have also been registered against Twitter in different cases in different parts of the country during the last few weeks.
