UK to Recognise Covaxin from November 22

People who have taken the indigenous ‘Covaxin’ dose in the country will now be able to travel to Britain without any restrictions and hassle. Britain will include the vaccine in the approval list from 22 November. Earlier Britain did not approve the vaccine. After the approval of the World Health Organization to the vaccine made in India, the UK has also approved its use.

The WHO recently approved the Covaxin. The UK government has taken this decision only after approval from the WHO. Britain’s High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, tweeted on Monday, saying- “Good news for Indians traveling to the UK. After approval from the World Health Organization, now Indians who have taken both doses of Covaxin from 22 November will not have to self-isolate during their visit to the UK.

Earlier, on November 3, in the meeting of the Technical Advisory Group of the WHO, the vaccine was included in the emergency listing. Bharat Biotech applied for EUL from WHO in the month of July and the process started. Phase 3 clinical trial data of Covaccine was available during June 2021. The World Health Organization’s Emergency Use List (EUL) process began on July 6, 2021, with rolling data submissions.

The WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) reviewed the Covaxin data in a meeting on 5 October and approved the EUL for the vaccine on 3 November.
