On July 17, 2023, Thailand hosted the 1st BIMSTEC Retreat, where member countries shared a commitment to a stronger, more resilient, and relevant Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). The meeting resulted in an agreement to enhance the organizational framework and crisis response mechanisms of BIMSTEC.
During the retreat, discussions were held on various important topics, including food security, public health, energy security, financial security, economic cooperation, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The retreat provided an opportunity for member countries to collaborate and strategize on common challenges and opportunities in the region, with the aim of fostering closer regional integration and cooperation among BIMSTEC nations.
