2023 Asia Cup

The Asia Cup 2023, the 16th installment of the tournament, will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with matches scheduled to be conducted as ODI matches. The tournament will feature six teams and will take place in August and September of 2023. The defending champions, Sri Lanka, will be hosting the tournament. This will be the first time the Asia Cup has been co-hosted, with four matches taking place in Pakistan and nine matches taking place in Sri Lanka.

The ACC Asia Cup 2022 has been confirmed by the ACC in January 2023. The ACC has confirmed the dates, format, and pathway structure for the tournament, which was initially scheduled for 2021 but was postponed to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The ACC has announced the fixtures for the 2022 ACC Asia Cup, which were confirmed in January 2023 and are as follows:

Afghanistan will participate in the tournament as a full member of the ACC, along with Bangladesh and India. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal will also participate in the tournament. Nepal will be playing its first ACC Asia Cup after qualifying for the tournament in 2023.

Format

The groups and format for the tournament were revealed on January 9th, 2023. The six teams will be divided into two three-team groups. A total of thirteen matches will be contested, comprising six league games, six Super 4 games, and one final match. India, Pakistan, and Nepal, the champions of the qualifying event (ACC Men’s Premier Cup) have been assigned to Group A, while Sri Lanka, the defending champions, have been paired with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The two teams in each group will advance to the Super 4 stage. The two teams will then compete in the final. 

Pakistan, Nepal, and India have been assigned to Groups A1 and A2, while Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka have been assigned to Groups B1 and B2. In the event that Nepal and Afghanistan do not qualify for the Super 4 stage, the slot of the eliminated team will be taken over by the teams in Group A and Group B.

Teams and Qualifications

All five full members were automatically qualified for the tournament, while Nepal was the inaugural participant in the main tournament, the ACC Men’s Premier Cup 2023, which will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal from April to May 2023, after overcoming the United Arab Emirates in the final.

The Asia Cup 2023 will commence on August 30, 2023, and conclude on September 17, 2023. The tournament will be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka and will feature 50 overs ODI matches, providing fans with the opportunity to witness thrilling matches between teams. This is the first time that the tournament has been held consecutively since 2018. Streaming partners for the Asia Cup 2023 will include Hotstar and Jio Cinema; Amazon Prime and Star Sports.
