A massive fire broke out on the 13th floor of a multi-story building in Kolkata’s Strand Road area on Monday evening. 15 fire tenders were sent on the spot to extinguish it. 9 people died in this incident. These include 4 firefighters, two policemen and one police ASI. Sources said the building exploded before the fire broke out. West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee, who reached the spot after the incident, said that she was not doing politics on this incident, but the Railways did not provide a map of the building for the rescue. CM has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal also expressed grief over the accident. It was also announced to provide compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those who died from the PM Relief Fund and Rs 50 thousand to the injured. The fire has been controlled. Fire and Emergency Service Minister Sujit Bose said that the building has offices of Eastern and South Eastern Railway.
