How to Pay Respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand — The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has released official information for the public wishing to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion, within the Grand Palace.

Route and Entry Guidelines

Visitors entering Sanam Luang are advised to proceed through the screening point near the Thawornwatthu Building (Red Building). From there, attendees will be directed to waiting tents according to their queue.

Officials will guide visitors through the underground tunnel at Na Phra Lan Road (Gate 1) and onwards to the Manee Nopparat Gate, the official entrance to the Grand Palace. After passing the security checkpoint, the public will wait in the designated area in front of the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion before proceeding to pay respects before Her Majesty’s royal portrait.

After completing the homage, attendees should exit through Viman Thewet Gate.

Dress Code Guidelines for Paying Respects to the Royal Remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother

At the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion, The Grand Palace

▪️ General Public

Men: Wear a collared black shirt or a white dress shirt with a black necktie, and long black trousers in a modest style.
Women: Wear a blouse with sleeves (not tight-fitting) and a long skirt or pha thung (traditional wrap skirt) that covers the knees.

▪️ Students

Students must wear their official school or university uniform according to regulations.
✖️ Avoid T-shirts, sleeveless tops, short skirts above the knees, shorts, or jeans.

▪️ Government Officials and State Employees

Wear the official uniform as prescribed.
A black or white dress shirt with a black necktie is acceptable. If wearing a suit or jacket, it must be black, and a black mourning armband should be worn on the left arm.
Formal attire in all black with a long skirt covering the knees is also appropriate.

✖️ In cases of inappropriate attire, pha thung (wrap skirts) are available for borrowing at the service point located in the underground hall.

Free Boat Services Provided by the Marine Department

To facilitate travel for the public, the Ministry of Transport, through the Marine Department, is offering free boat services for those wishing to sign the book of condolences and pay respects before the royal portrait at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion.

The service operates from October 27 to November 2, 2025, covering the route Wat Arun Pier – Wat Rakhang Pier – Tha Chang (Wang Luang) Pier, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or until the day’s activities conclude.

This initiative ensures convenience, safety, and accessibility for both Thai citizens and foreign visitors during this solemn period of national mourning.

Public Schedule for Paying Respects to the Royal Remains

The Royal Household Bureau has announced the following schedule for paying respects to the royal remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at the Grand Palace:

From Monday, 27 October 2025 onwards
Daily from 08.30 to 16.00 hrs.
The public pays their respects before the Queen Mother’s portrait at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion in the Grand Palace.

From Sunday, 9 November 2025 onwards
Daily from 09.00 to 21.00 hrs.
The public pays their respects after the completion of the 15-day Royal Merit-Making Ceremony at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

After the completion of the 100-day Royal Merit-Making Ceremony
Members of the Royal Family, the Privy Council, the Cabinet, individuals, government agencies, state enterprises, the private sector, and the general public may host Royal Merit-Making Ceremonies and the Chanting of the Abhidhamma for the royal remains.

Paying Tribute with Respect and Unity

The passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother has united the people of Thailand in remembrance of her lifelong devotion to the nation, culture, and the welfare of the Thai people.
