Assam Issues New Guidelines for Bakrid

In view of the current Covid-19 situation in the state, the Assam government on Monday issued a revised set of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the state and imposed a total curfew in five districts.

The government has banned all meetings and gatherings at any open or closed spaces. Prayers at mosques will be allowed with a maximum of five persons.

“Regarding celebration of Eid, all persons have to celebrate at their homes. Namaz at mosque is allowed with maximum of five persons including the religious head,” said the government order.

Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said that total curfew has been imposed in Goalghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Biswanath.

He added that directives for both rural and urban areas will remain in force with effect from 5 am on July 20 until further order.

“There will be total containment in five districts showing high positivity rate in recent days and in the districts showing moderate positivity rate including Goalpara and Morigaon districts. The curfew will be from 1 pm to 5 am,” the order stated.

The curfew will be from 5 pm to 5 am in Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro), South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Bajali, Kamrup, Darrang, Nagaon, Hojai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj and Karbi Anglong where the positivity rate is showing improvement.

There will be a total ban on the movement of all public and private transport in the total containment districts. However, movement of goods will continue.

In other districts, all public transport authorities will enforce Covid-19 appropriate behavior and seating inside the vehicles, carriers, containers etc.

“All workplaces, business/commercial establishments, shops, dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy, and milk booths, animal fodder, restaurants, dhabas and other eateries, sale counters, showrooms etc. of cold storages and warehouses will be closed till further order in districts showing high positivity rate and up to 4 pm in districts showing improvement in positivity rate,” said the government order.

According to the new SOP, all inter-district passenger transport services and movement of people to and from other districts will remain suspended.

The state government has directed the authorities of all educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities to continue to provide quality virtual options and no physical classes would be allowed.

Assam on Sunday had reported 1,329 new Covid-19 cases and 15 deaths.
