Earthquake in Bengal with Yass storm has knocked. A 3.8 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in Jalpaiguri on Wednesday afternoon. After continuous rains, the water level of river Ganga has increased in Howrah. The water of the river is filled inside the Belur Math.
Earlier, the storm hit the coast of Odisha’s Bhadrak district at around 9 am on Wednesday. Between 10.30 and 11.30, he passed 20 kilometers south of South Balasore. During this time winds at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour. The storm then moved northwestwards and centered south-southwest about 15 km from Balasore. From here the storm will turn towards Jharkhand.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the storm’s landfall. Apart from Bengal and Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are also affected by the storm. A warning has been issued in many districts of Jharkhand. At the same time, 26 districts of Bihar including Patna are warned of heavy rains. Hurricanes are most effective in Odisha’s Chandipur and Balasore, then Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.
Indian Railways has canceled long-distance trains running 38 routes from South to Kolkata till May 29. The Eastern Railway has also canceled the Malda-Balurghat passenger train for 26 and 27 May. In view of the speed of the storm, trains are being tied with iron chains along the tracks at railway stations, so that no accidents occur.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that 11.2 lakh people have been evacuated. More than 40 thousand houses have been damaged in Halishahar due to the impact of the storm.
