EDMC Waives off Fee Charged From Weekly Market Vendors

The Corona-related lockdown in the national capital Delhi has had a big impact on the businessmen here. Especially small businessmen have been hit the most. In view of this, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has given a big relief to the weekly markets. Giving a big relief to the weekly marketers in the Corona pandemic, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has waived the fees on weekly markets till March 31, 2022.

The newly elected mayor of East Delhi, Shyam Sundar Agarwal announced that the fees of those who set up a weekly market would be waived off. He said that about 55000 people will benefit from this decision of East Delhi Municipal Corporation. He said that due to Corona, those who set up weekly markets are facing a lot of difficulties.

At the same time, he told that the East Delhi Municipal Corporation is helping the weekly marketers and street vendors as much as possible in this difficult period of Corona pandemic. East Delhi Municipal Corporation is providing financial help to the street vendors. The corporation has given a loan of Rs 10,000 to 5312 street vendors under the Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana of the Central Government.

Aggarwal said that on one hand the East Delhi Municipal Corporation is engaged in providing relief to the weekly marketers, street vendors and laborers and on the other hand the Delhi government is indifferent to their difficulties.

He said that along with the markets in Delhi, weekly markets were also closed due to the lockdown. Under the process of unlocking, permission has been given to open major markets, but weekly markets have not been opened so far. The economic capacity of the weekly marketers is very less and their life has become very difficult due to the lockdown. There is a livelihood crisis on lakhs of people.

The East Delhi Mayor has demanded that when the decision has been taken to open the markets, the weekly markets should also be opened with the conditions of adopting Covid-compliant behavior, so that lakhs of people can survive.
