Government’s new guideline on the CoveShield vaccine, 4 not 6 to 8 weeks in the second dose

The government has decided to widen the gap between the first and second doses of AstraZeneca’s Corona Vaccine Coveshield. According to the Centre’s directive, there should now be a gap of at least 6 to 8 weeks between the two doses of KoviShield. Currently the difference between the two is 28 days. The Center clarified that the ruling would not apply to Kovaxin. According to the central government, this decision is being taken after the latest research by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) and Vaccination Expert Group, which will be implemented by the state governments. It has been claimed that if the second dose of the vaccine is given between 6 and 8 weeks, it will prove to be more effective.
