Govt Makes Pollution Certificate Uniform Across India

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given a big relief to the drivers. In fact, the ministry has approved the use of a single PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate for all vehicles plying across the country. The Union Ministry in its notification has done away with the requirement of making PUC certificate for the same vehicle at different places in the country. After this notification, now the vehicle owners will not have to get the PUC certificate made in another state until the validity of their existing PUC is over.

Apart from this, the ministry is preparing to link the PUC certificate with the National Register with the PUC database. After amending the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, the government will now also give a QR code on the PUC form, through which the details of the vehicle, vehicle owner and emission status will be given. Along with this, the name and address of the owner of the vehicle, phone number, engine and chassis number will also be given in the new PUC. With the help of this, anyone will be able to get the details of a particular vehicle.

On behalf of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, it has been said that a notification has been issued on June 14, 2021 for a common format of PUC certificate to be issued across the country under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989. In this, the mobile number of the vehicle owner has been made mandatory, on which SMS alerts will be sent for verification and fees.

If the Enforcement Officer has reason to believe that a motor vehicle is not complying with the provisions of the emission norms, he may, in writing or through electronic mode, send the vehicle to the driver or the person in charge of the vehicle at any of the authorized PUC testing stations. Might ask to test in one. If the driver or the person in charge of the vehicle fails to produce the vehicle for the same, the owner of the vehicle shall be liable to pay the penalty.

If the owner fails to comply, the registering authority shall, for reasons to be recorded in writing, suspend the certificate of registration of the vehicle and any permits until a PUC proof is obtained. go.

The enforcement officers will be equipped with IT and this will help in better control of polluting vehicles, the statement said.
