The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday that this time the T20 World Cup will be organized in UAE and Oman. The World Cup will start from October 17 and its final match will be played on November 14. Due to Corona, this T20 World Cup will not be organized in India. According to the ICC, even though this tournament will not be held in India, the BCCI will host this tournament.
According to the ICC, all the matches of the T20 World Cup will be held in 4 stadiums in UAE and Oman. These include Dubai International Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Sharjah Stadium and Oman Cricket Academy Ground.
In Round 1, 12 matches will be played between eight teams, out of which four (top two from each group) will qualify for Super-12. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea will play in this round. Out of which four teams will join the top eight ranked T20 International teams and reach the Super 12.
At the same time, there will be a total of 30 matches in Super-12, which will start from October 24. Here 12 teams will be divided into two groups. Their matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This will be followed by two semi-final and final matches.
ICC Acting CEO Geoff Allardyce said, “Our priority is to organize the T20 World Cup safely. However, we are disappointed that it is not organized in India. We will work closely with the BCCI, Emirates Cricket Board and Oman Cricket to ensure that fans can enjoy the best of cricketing events.”
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that, “BCCI is looking forward to hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman. We would have been more happy if it was in India, but given the condition of Covid-19, this The decision has been taken. BCCI will continue to host this tournament in UAE and Oman. BCCI is fully prepared for it.
In view of the threat of a second wave of Corona in the country, the BCCI had decided to cancel the IPL recently. Many IPL players got infected by this. Now IPL will also be organized in UAE itself. It is worth noting that last year also due to Corona, IPL was played in UAE itself.
