ICP Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Grand Festivities

Pattaya, Chonburi Province — On the evening of August 15, 2024, the Indian Community Pattaya (ICP) hosted a grand celebration at Sukhawadi House, Pattaya, to commemorate the 78th anniversary of India’s Independence Day. The event was marked by the presence of distinguished guests and community leaders, making it a memorable occasion.

His Excellency Mr. Ramchandran, Indian Embassy Counsellor, delivered an inspiring speech that emphasized the significance of India’s independence and its enduring legacy. The event was further honored by the presence of Mr. Sonthaya Khunpluem, former Minister of Culture, who played a key role in the celebrations.

ICP Chairman Mr. Ranjeet Singh addressed the Indian diaspora, highlighting the unity and pride of the Indian community in Pattaya. He was joined by the President of the Pattaya Indian Community, Mr. Laxman Singh, and the executive committee members, including Mr. Raju Paji, Mr. K.B. Mahanta, Mr. Ram Singh, Mr. Amit Sharma, Mr. Ravi Kant, and Mr. Vicky Dixit, who welcomed the guests and led the community in the festivities.

The event attracted a large turnout, with over 200 members of the Indian community in Pattaya, contributing to the lively and festive atmosphere. Honorable guests in attendance included Mr. Muthu Ramachandran, representative of the Indian Embassy; Mr. Kamol Sukkasombat, Senate member; Mr. Rattanachai Sutidechanai, expert of Pattaya City, representing Mr. Pramet Ngampichet, Mayor of Pattaya City; Pol. Lt. Col. Pitipong Yaemthanaroj, Director of the Eastern DSI; Mr. Mana Yaprakam, President of the Pattaya City Cultural Council; and Mr. Sukraj Kalara, President of the Walking Street Community.

The evening featured a variety of cultural performances, the presentation of souvenirs to esteemed guests and supporters, and a communal meal that concluded with a group photo, capturing the unity and joy of the occasion.

India’s Independence Day, observed annually on August 15, commemorates the nation’s declaration of independence from British rule in 1947. This historic day symbolizes the country’s freedom and the beginning of a new era, first celebrated with the raising of the Indian national flag by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The celebration in Pattaya served as a meaningful reminder of the deep connections between the Indian community abroad and their homeland, fostering a sense of pride and togetherness among all who attended.
