India-Bangladesh ‘Maitri Diwas’ Celebrated in Bangkok

The first India-Bangladesh ‘Maitri Diwas’ was celebrated in Bangkok on 7 December 2021.This day marks the recognition of Bangladesh as an independent country, by India, fifty years ago. On this occasion a joint reception by the Embassy of India and Embassy of Bangladesh was held at Hotel Anantara Siam, Bangkok.

During the visit of H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India to Bangladesh in March 2021, India and Bangladesh had decided to commemorate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh War of Liberation as ‘Maitri Diwas’. As testimony to the unique foundation of our friendship and the remarkable journey of Bangladesh over the past 50 years, both countries are celebrating ‘Maitri Diwas’ in Delhi and Dhaka and 18 other cities worldwide including Bangkok.

H.E. Ms. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Ambassador of India to Thailand H.E. Ms. Suchitra Durai and Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hyedelivered their welcome remarks. Around 50 high level dignitaries/guests representing the Parliament, diplomatic corps, businesses, community members, and media attended the reception. The celebration included two cultural performances highlighting the cultural linkages between India and Bangladesh.

A photo exhibition showcasing 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh, shared cultural links, development projects, connectivity and Bangladesh Liberation War was also organised on the sidelines of the reception.
