The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a slight decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 18, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 26,389 new cases reported across India.
Kerala has reported 8,655 at this time. Maharashtra registered 2,797 cases, and Karnataka stands at 1,579 cases at this time. Today’s number is slightly lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.
This is the eleventh day that the cases have fallen below 100,000. Despite the decrease in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.
GOA plans to reopen schools for levels 1-12 on February 21, 2022, with proper COVID-19 measures. The Union Health Ministry advised states to ease or remove additional restrictive measures. Since the third wave began, state governments added measures such as weekend lockdowns or curfews to help curb the spread. In his letter to the chief secretaries, the health secretary asked if these measures could be lifted. He said it is important that the movement of people and economic activities do not remain under the same level of restrictions now.
Several states have also begun lifting measures. In Delhi, universities will begin to open after a long closure. In Uttarakhand, the night curfews will be lifted and in Punjab, schools for levels primary to 12 will reopen.
