INDIA COVID Cases Update as of February 9, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a slight increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 9, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 71,628 new cases reported across India.

Kerala has reported 29,471 cases followed by Maharashtra registering 6,107 cases, and Tamil Nandu stands at 4,519 cases at this time. Today’s number is slightly higher than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.

This is the third day that the cases have fallen below 100,000. Despite the slight increase in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed the schools to get ready by this month’s end. Currently, only 50% attendance is allowed. The committee also considered increasing the number of pilgrims allowed for festivals. Aluva Sivarathri, Attukal Pongala, and Maraman convention would be allowed to have more visitors.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar is also planning to relax measures further by the end of the month. “We are planning to unlock Mumbai further. The daily cases have dipped. However, people need to follow Covid-appropriate behavior including masks and social distancing. It will help in preventing the virus further,” she said.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that insurance claims worth Rs 808 crore have been paid. This is under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package’ (PMGKP) insurance scheme. These are to take care of the family of workers who died while being involved in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
