The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 16, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 269,817 new cases reported across India.
Maharashtra has reported 46,205 cases followed by Karnataka registering 32,793 cases, and Delhi stands at 20,718 cases at this time. This is the fourth day that the cases crossed the 200,000 mark in a while.
Jammu and Kashmir are among the states that have recently imposed a weekend curfew to help contain the spread of the virus. The announcement said “night curfew shall continue to remain in force from 9 pm-6 am with complete restriction on non-essential movement. There shall be a complete restriction on non-essential movement during weekends in entire Jammu and Kashmir”.
The measures include gatherings both indoor and outdoor are restricted to 25 attendees. Banquet halls and event centers will be restricted to 25 vaccinated individuals as well. Cinema halls, theatres, multiplexes, restaurants, clubs, gymnasiums, and swimming centers are allowed to operate 25% of their capacity. Schools are also allowed to move to online classes.
