India’s First Smog Tower Inaugurated in Delhi

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the country’s first smog tower at Connaught Place on Monday. This tower is 24 meters high and will clean the air within a radius of one kilometer. During this, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai was present with him.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, ‘The country’s first smog tower has been installed in Delhi to fight pollution and clean the air of Delhi. We have imported this technology from America. This tower is 24 meters high and it will clean the air of 1 kilometer radius.

One thousand cubic meters of air will be purified per second
Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the tower, more than 20 meters high, will work to improve the air quality in a radius of one kilometer around it and will start functioning at full capacity after the monsoon. Earlier, Rai had said that the construction of the smog tower was delayed due to the Kovid epidemic. The Delhi Council of Ministers had approved the pilot project in October last year. The smog tower will purify one thousand cubic meters of air per second.

An official said that after the smog tower starts its operation, its effect will be studied for two years. Officials of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said that another 25-metre-high tower constructed by the central government will start functioning in Anand Vihar by August 31.

The smog tower project was approved by the Delhi cabinet in October 2020 to help tackle rising air pollution in the national capital. Environment Minister Gopal Rai said last week that the cost of this smog tower is Rs 20 crore. This tower has been funded by the Delhi government.
