Mason Greenwood has been surrounded by controversy throughout the week. Initial reports said that pictures, videos, and voice recordings of abuse were posted online. All the evidence pointed out to Mason Greenwood. He was arrested by the GMP. They confirmed that an arrest was made and investigations are ongoing.
This triggered Manchester United to announce that Greenwood will not be returning to the team until further notice. Nike also terminated their contract with Mason stating they do not condone abuse. EAs February 1 update removed Mason Greenwood from their game lineup. Manchester Club also confirmed this week that they are allowing fans to exchange their Mason Greenwood shirts.
United’s most high-profile players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, and David de Gea, appear to have unfollowed Greenwood on Instagram, despite them following other members of the senior squad. Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Fred, and Jesse Lingard were also among those not following the striker, although Rashford, Lingard, and Fred have re-followed him.
Club captain Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes are in a group of players who, so far, are also continuing to follow their team-mate.
He is currently released on bail pending further investigation for allegations of assault, sexual assault, and making threats to kill. He spent three nights in jail as the inquiry was ongoing.
While all these are happening, no one was able to obtain additional information about the victim.
Today, the 18-year-old victim released a statement thanking everyone for their support. She also added that there will be no further comment from her until investigations have concluded.
