Meghalaya’s Umngot River One Of The World’s Cleanest Rivers

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has shared a picture of a boat floating on a river in Meghalaya, which is currently going viral on Twitter. In this picture, the water of the river is so clear and transparent that the greenery and boulders inside the water are clearly visible. This river of Meghalaya is so clear that the boat shared in the picture seems to be flying in the middle of the air instead of floating on the water.

This picture is of Umngot river of Meghalaya. Sharing this picture, the ministry thanked the people of the state for keeping the river clean. He tweeted and wrote that this picture is of Umngot river of Meghalaya. “One of the cleanest river in the world. It is in India.

Mangot river is also called Dauki. Dauki is a small town, which is on the Indo-Bangladesh border. It is 100 kms from Shillong. Dauki has a trade route between India and Bangladesh, through which many trucks pass. Along with this, it is also a favorite spot for fishing for fishermen. Umangot river flows through three villages Dauki, Darang and Shenandenga. It is the responsibility of the people of these villages to clean it.

According to the season and the number of tourists, there are some days in the month of Community Day. On this day at least one person from every house of the village comes to clean the river. There are about 300 houses in the village and they all clean together. A fine of up to Rs 5000 is charged for spreading filth.
