Over 50 Killed in Oil Tanker Explosion in Haiti

More than 50 people have been killed and dozens injured in an explosion in an oil tanker in Haiti. Prime Minister Ariel Henry said the explosion occurred late Monday in the city of Cap-Haitian. He said that he is deeply saddened by this incident.

Henry tweeted, “Three days of national mourning will be declared across the region in memory of those killed in this accident, leaving the entire nation of Haiti in mourning.” He said that his administration is taking the help of field hospitals to help the affected people.

Dozens of bodies were still lying on the road hours after the explosion. Some people were seen standing around him. Cap-Haitian deputy mayor Patrick Almoner said at least 53 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in the explosion.

According to Deputy Mayor Patrick, about 20 nearby houses were burnt in the accident. He said that the death toll may increase as the number of people who died in homes has not been counted yet.
