During the visit of H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India to Bangladesh in March 2021, India and Bangladesh had decided to commemorate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh War of Liberation as ‘Maitri Diwas’.
In this connection, a Panel discussion on “The Perpetual Bond between India and Bangladesh and its Implications on the Integration of BIMSTEC” was organised at the Faculty of Social Science, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok, on 3 December, 2021. The Panel Discussion was comprised of three panelists Assistant Professor Surat Horachaikul, Department of International Relations, Faculty of Political Science & Director, Indian Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University; Mr. Subhas Dasgupta, Fomer senior technical officer, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN (FAO) and Astt Prof. Jirayudh Sinthuphan, Director, South Asian Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University.
Associate Professor Poom Moolsilpa, Dean of Faculty of Social Science, Srinakharinwirot University welcomed all attendees. Ambassador of India to Thailand H.E. Ms. Suchitra Durai and Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdul Hye delivered their remarks. Members of academia, diplomats and media attended the panel discussion followed by Q and A.
A photo exhibition on the 50 years of diplomatic relations between India andBangladesh highlighting shared cultural links, development projects, and connectivity was also organised on the sidelines of the event.
